What are making charges?
The cost of the craftsmanship that turns raw gold into finished jewellery. A simple bangle costs less to make than a detailed bridal set.
What is wastage (kaat)?
The small amount of gold lost while a piece is shaped and finished. It is usually charged as a percentage of the weight and should be stated, not hidden inside the final price.

Because the rate used, the wastage percentage and the making charges can each differ. Comparing only the final number hides where the difference comes from.
How can I compare shops fairly?
Ask each one the same four questions: what rate are you using, what is the wastage percentage, what are the making charges, and will the receipt show the KT and weight? Write the answers down.
